May I choose to walk tall
They see the one who
Cannot cope with difficulties
Is naive to the dangers
That must come
The one of whom they will say:
“We need a victim
That one will do”
Fear is a bewilderment
An uncertainty in mind
A tendency to avoid
Unpleasant and unwanted things
And the world simply reflects
Your fear back at you
And the reflection will haunt
And ensnare you
Fear chokes the breath
Narcotises the blood
Is it any wonder then, that
Its victims stoop and slink
Are small, compressed things
Shallow breathers;
Quick and irregular
To breathe deeply with faith and
Courage is to inevitably develop
Self-reliance and self-assurance
For optimism is inextricably linked
To the universal laws:
For respect for life
And patience of spirit
