We know with certainty
We point wholeheartedly to causes
Giddy with enthusiastic explanations
Churned out by the machinery
Of semantic thought and reason
Until doubt is fled and
Clouds of reason crowd
The path of direct experience
And so, so easily lose our footing
Stumble and get turned around
For it is just like the mind to fill its
Space with utilitarian explanations
To take up prejudices on a whim
Or with the tide of popular opinion
That re-enforce its vicious humour
And when the tide of opinion turns
When its vicious humours revealed
Isn’t it just like the mind to
Think the thoughts that
Condemn the mind that
Thought those thoughts before
