May I not seek to explain or explain away
To know with certainty
To point wholeheartedly to causes
Giddy with enthusiastic explanations
Churned out by the machinery
Of semantic thought and reason
Until doubt is fled and
Clouds of reason crowd
The pathways of experience
And so, so easily lose our footing
Stumble and get turned around
To fill an essentially simple space
With utilitarian explanations
To take up prejudices on a whim
Or with the tide of popular opinion
That re-enforces vicious humours
And repudiating all else
